A crowd pleasing case of six red and white wines carefully selected by the folks at Vintage Roots With wines from South Africa to France, this case has everything from tropical summer wines to spicy cinnamon and cherry notes.
Natural Star ‘Chenin/Sauvignon’ (South Africa)
From organic wine and fair trade powerhouse Stellar in the Western Cape of South Africa comes this dry, easy drinking Chenin Blanc with a dash of Sauvignon Blanc donating a touch of extra gooseberry picant freshness to the mix.
Tre Piume Bianco (Italy)
From the rolling green hills of Veneto in North-East Italy; a crisp but balmy white made with local characters Gargegena (the key proponent of Soave), Trebbiano and a dash of international luminary, Chardonnay. The result is a fresh, peachy number with a subtle almond curve on the finish.
Claude Val Blanc (France)
A wonderfully textural blend of varieties indigenous to France’s South Eastern regions, such as Grenache Blanc, Vermentino, Mauzac, Chenin Blanc and a touch of Sauvignon Blanc for freshness. A lemon rind and honeyed nose gives way to a fantastically rich and vivid palate. Fantastic both with food or as an aperitif.
Firefly Shiraz/Merlot (South Africa)
Also from Stellar in South Africa’s Western Cape, comes this household blend of Merlot and Shiraz. Here Merlot lends its plum-like smoothness whilst Shiraz throws in its signature white pepper spice both on the nose and palate. A real taste of sunshine on a gloomy day.
Mont’Albano Merlot/Refosco (Italy)
A collaborative project from one of North-East Italy’s original organic trail blazers Mont’Albano, and local vineyard Sartori in Friuli. Here, the union of soft red plum flavours from Merlot, and the floral personality of Refosco forms a seriously winning package that is ripe, fresh and incredibly versatile with food, as well as being happily glugged by itself on a warm Summer’s evening.
Claude Val Rouge (France)
A deep-coloured red from organic experts Claude Val Rouge in the Languedoc region of Southern France. Made from 50% Grenache, 25% Carignan, 15% Syrah and 10% Merlot. Multi-layered notes of raspberry evolve towards sweet spice and a hint of liquorice on the palate.
