This is a dark, rich Merlot with unusual clarity and purity of flavour - it tastes like delicately spiced ripe plums. It has rich, plummy mouth-coating tannins which make this better with food than on its own. The flavours are spot on - it's rich, but comes at a great price.

Producer

Anne and Philip Cluzel took over this run down farm in 2000. It used to be an old monastery and the buildings have hardly been updated since, except about 100 years ago when someone put concrete tanks for winemaking in one of the barns. You'd never know this from the faultless wines they produce. Simple, fresh wines, with no oak, just rich, pure flavours, natural yeasts and the minimum of sulphur.
