Enjoy your own delicious French beans all summer long with Vital Seed’s organic Cobra Climbing French Bean Seeds. A reliable and prolific variety that produces an early crop of stringless round pods, it’s also an RHS Award of Garden Merit winner. The plants produce beautiful purple flowers that will stand out and liven up your garden. Try the beans cooked and tossed in a vinaigrette while still warm, for a wonderful summer side dish.

Direct sow from May to the beginning of June when the soil has warmed up, and harvest from July all the way through to October. Build a climbing frame prior to sowing to avoid damaging the roots of the runner beans.

These heirloom seeds are open-pollinated, meaning you can harvest the seeds to place again the following year.

Pack contains approximately 80 seeds.

Producer

Vital Seeds is a small independent seed company based in Devon producing and selling organic and open-pollinated seeds. Unlike hybrid varieties it is possible to save seed from these varieties year after and they can adapt to your local climate and soil conditions over time. Vital Seeds are committed to educating gardeners and growers about how to save their own seed in the hope of creating a more resilient food system.

Storage & prep

When to sow: May – June

Spacing: 65 x 40cm

Climbing French Beans tips: Direct sow from May until the beginning of June, when the soil has warmed up. If sown when the soil is too cold and/or wet the beans may rot. We recommend building the climbing structure first (poles distanced 65cm between rows and 40cm within the row) and then planting four beans at the base of each pole 4cm deep. This way you will know exactly where the beans have been planted and also you will not damage the roots when building the structure.
