Sweet, floury, nutty and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Organic chestnuts are one of those wonderful seasonal treats that bring joy in winter!
They're really simple to prepare, so don't be put off if you're a chestnut novice. Crank the oven up to 200°C. Get a paring knife and carefully score the top of each chestnut with an 'x' (listen to 'Let it Snow, Let it Snow' while you're at it). Roast in a dry roasting tin for 20-30 minutes (until they're soft enough to squeeze with an oven glove), cool and pop out of their shells.
Eat them just as they are, or toss them with pasta, cabbage, roasted squash, whip them into soups... the sky's the limit.
