Xarel.lo is indigenous to Spain and we are real fans of it. Here it’s unoaked with a fine seam of crisp acidity and come the sunshine, this is one of the most enlivening dry white wines we know. Eat with a cool, crisp beetroot salad. 88 Points, The Wine Gang, 'Made from 50-year-old Xarel.lo, one of the key component of Cava, this is a bit of a revelation: after opening with fairly simple citrus and delicately floral aromas, it explodes with flavour on the palate, a massive punch of herb-touched lime and grapefruit, perhaps the merest hint of pettilance adding even more vibrancy and zing, some smoky mineral qualities and a streaking core of acidity that powers to the finish. Albet i Noya, in the Penedes region, near Barcelona, is owned by brothers Josep Maria and Antoni Albet i Noya, and their mother Nuria Noya i Rafecas. Their family has farmed the vineyard for three generations and they are true experts in their field. In 1978 they decided to return to traditional organic methods of growing their vines, as Josep and Antoni believe that the pesticides change the aroma and texture of the grapes. The soil on the Albet i Noya estate is low in organic matter and good at holding water which makes it perfect fro growing high quality wines. The vineyards are found on the western slopes of the Ordal mountain range facing the midday sun so the vines can soak up all the energy they need for growing.
