Fidora Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore - ABV: 11%
Tasting Notes:
A vintage fizz (of a single harvest) from the top region of Valdobbiadene, where the grapes are hand-harvested from steep hillside vineyards. There are rich aromas of crisp apple and pears, hints of citrus and a long finish. A brilliant aperitif; but as it’s more full-flavoured than your average Prosecco, it can be paired with fish dishes such as baked seabass and fennel.
From the estate:
Way back in 1974 Guido Fidora converted the Veneto family estate to organic; leaving behind all agrochemicals, which they saw were harming local wildlife indiscriminately. Being an early adopter has brought life buzzing back to the estate and a distinct quality to their wines.
Nuevo Mundo - ABV: 12.5%
Tasting notes:
De Martino are amongst the vanguard of Chilean producers. Their ‘Nuevo Mundo’ wines eschew the classic ‘fruit bomb’ in favour of a more balanced, food-friendly approach, with lower alcohol levels. This Sauvignon is a great example of this, with flavours that seem to float on the air. Lime and quince notes make for a beautiful, restrained wine. It won’t overpower food, so pair with a wide range of lighter dishes such as warm salads and seafood.
From the estate:
This estate covers over 300 hectares of vines in Maipo. From the start, the objective was to implement the most environmentally friendly practices. They have reduced greenhouse gas emissions and increased water efficiency, while retaining a distinct expression of origin. As such, Nuevo Mundo represents the first Carbon Neutral and Organic wine in South America.
Proemio Malbec - ABV: 14%
Tasting notes:
An unoaked, fresh-style of Malbec from high altitude vineyards that has the purity you would expect from this fashionable variety. Aromas and flavours of black cherries and plum lead to a long, velvety smooth finish. The classic pairing for Argentine Malbec is of course steak; and who are we to argue with such wisdom?
From the estate:
Proemio is a fascinating boutique winery located in Mendoza, with organically farmed vineyards. Proemio’s owner and oenologist Marcelo Bocardo could be described as a new wave of Argentinian winemaker, who avoids over extraction and heavy use of oak; focusing instead on expression of the terroir (i.e. Uco Valley, Pedriel-Luján de Cuyo and Maipú). Proemio achieve great results with low yielding, premium zone vines that show varietal purity with elegance and harmony.
