What does Christmas taste like to you? Warm, aromatic spices? Tart and tangy cranberries? Or maybe it tastes like a celebratory glass of fizz. All three of these festive favourites are combined in this wintry cocktail created by drink maestros Luscombe, which combines two types of gin with a fragrant syrup and a refreshing dash of Luscombe Cranberry Crush.

Ingredients

  • 250g caster sugar
  • 125ml cold water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 star anise
  • 3 cloves
  • 35ml gin
  • 15ml sloe gin
  • 15ml fresh lemon juice
  • 50ml Luscombe Cranberry Crush

Method

1. Start by making the spiced syrup - you will need to cool this before you make the cocktail, so make it the day before if you can. Tip the sugar into a large pan and pour in the cold water. Add the cinnamon, start anise and cloves. Bring to the boil, turn the heat down a little and simmer for 2 mins, then remove from the heat and cool. You can speed up the cooling by pouring the syrup into a large bowl or jug and then sitting that in a larger bowl of ice.
2. To make the cocktail, half fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour in the gin, sloe gin and lemon juice. Add 1 tsp of the spiced syrup. Seal the shaker and shake everything together for 15-30 secs.
3. Fill a short glass with ice, strain in the gin cocktail. Top up with Luscombe Cranberry Crush to serve.
