Water kefir is a fermented drink made by combining filtered water, fruits and a small amount of sugar with water kefir grains. Each grain consists of symbiotic bacteria and yeast only, no actual grains such as wheat and rye. Water kefir is similar in concept to kombucha but contains different strains of probiotics and digestive enzymes and so works differently in the gut. Water kefir is less acidic than kombucha and tastes milder.
