Malbec may be more associated with Argentina than France, but the small region of Cahors is its spiritual home, where it was known as ‘black wine’ due to its deep and intense colour. This Cahors has the benefit of a few years’ bottle age, giving that supple texture and smooth taste that can only come with time. Ideal with roast beef and all the trimmings.

Grape: Malbec, Merlot
Region: Bergerac & Southwest France
Vineyard: Cahors
ABV: 13.5%

Producer

The vineyards have been at the chateau since the mid 19th century, and owner Isabelle Rey-Auriat is a fourth-generation winemaker. She has a ‘natural’ approach, ageing the wine in traditional concrete vats rather than oak barrels, to allow maximum expression of the grapes’ fruit flavours. There is no filtering or fining, which maintains all the rich flavour in the wine.
