Unlike the supermarkets, we don't artificially 'purge' our persimmon so you may find them more astringent or tannic than you're used to. We pack them under ripe so they arrive to you in one piece, leave them until they're very soft and almost jelly-like before tucking in.

Producer

These sweet persimmon are grown by an organic co-operative in an area of Valencia, Spain. Known for their soft, honeyed fruits, with an 'Indicación Geográfica Protegida' which is the equivalent to our 'Protected Geographical Indication' (PGI).

The co-op, called Cofrudeca, was established over 20 years ago and aim to “conserve Earth's fertility by using natural resources, without the chemical products of synthesis.” Their goal is to produce highly nutritious and delicious foods.

Ingredients & allergens

Abel & Cole handles celery, celeriac and nuts on site. Due to our packing process and re-use of boxes there is a risk of cross-contamination from these, and all other allergens.

While we do everything we can to ensure the information on this page is correct, ingredients, nutritional and dietary information are subject to change. So along with the information on our website, we always recommend that you read each label carefully before enjoying your items

Storage & prep

The shiny, tomato-shaped fruit have a sweet apricot taste. Wait until they're very ripe otherwise you may find them too astringent – wash and bite into like an apple, or slice the top off and scoop out the flesh. The fruit also makes a delicious addition to stews, cakes, creamy puddings and it can even be made into jam. Don’t forget to wash your fruit and veg before use.
