- ½ pineapple
- 1 banana
- 50g baby leaf spinach
- A thumb of turmeric
- 1 orange
- 350ml ice cold water
- A few ice cubes
- Blender
- Measuring jug
- 1.
Slice the leaves off the pineapple and halve it, setting 1 half aside (see our tip below). Slice the skin off the remaining half. Use the tip of your knife to scoop out any tough ‘eyes’. Roughly chop the pineapple, discarding any woody bits of core. Add the chopped pineapple to your blender.
- 2.
Peel and break in the banana. Add the spinach. Peel and finely grate in the turmeric (see our note above). Grate in the orange zest and squeeze in the juice. Add 350ml cold water and a handful of ice cubes. Blend till smooth, then pour into a couple of glasses and serve.

A pineapple a day
If you have a big blender, you can use all the pineapple in your smoothie although this will affect the nutritional information. Otherwise, wrap your spare pineapple up and store in the fridge (it’ll keep for a couple of days) and pop over to abelandcole.co.uk/recipes for all sorts of bright ideas for how to make the most of it. - Tip
Yellow alert
Fresh turmeric has a warm, earthy flavour that blend beautifully with sweet pineapple and bananas. Start by adding a little turmeric, then taste and add more if you want a more powerful quick. Be warned! Turmeric likes to stain everything yellow. Prepare it on a glass chopping board, a plate or a board you can wash up straight away and wear gloves and an apron to protect your hands and clothes.
