Purple basil is similar to its green cousin, with its distinctive notes of clove but slightly less sweetness. Best used fresh and uncooked in salads, pesto or to top pizza or pasta. This way it will keep its vibrant purple colour. Keep your pot in a sunny spot and harvest regularly to encourage new growth.

Producer

Jo Wright and her team at Organic Blooms work hard to bring organic flowers to your door. Based in Gloucestershire, they run as a social enterprise, providing jobs for those who might struggle in a traditional workplace. Horticultural therapy is at the heart of what they do – gardening and plant-tending being excellent options for those with varying support needs. We work with them to plan upcoming crops, making sure each flower is reliable, interesting and satisfying for their staff to grow. We’re proud to say that, because of our support, they’ve been able to hire more people than ever before.

Ingredients & allergens

Abel & Cole handles celery, celeriac, peanuts and nuts on site. Due to our packing process and re-use of boxes there is a risk of cross-contamination from these, and all other allergens.

While we do everything we can to ensure the information on this page is correct, ingredients, nutritional and dietary information are subject to change. So along with the information on our website, we always recommend that you read each label carefully before enjoying your items

Storage & prep

Open straight away and water well. Grow on somewhere warm and sunny. Your plant will arrive in a biodegradable wood-pulp pot, you can keep it inside this pot for a little while but it will start to break down once you've watered it a few times. You can either pot it on inside the pot, give it a good soak first and it will slowly break down allowing the roots to grow outwards. Or you can tip it out of the pot to pot it on and compost or reuse the wood-pulp pot. Basil is an annual plant and is not frost hardy.
