We're thrilled to bring you these entriely plastic and peat free potted herbs from Organic Blooms. The ideal accompaniment to cream cheese and crackers or summertime potato salads, organic chives impart an onion-like flavour to all manner of dishes. If allowed to bloom, chive flowers are also edible, and are particularly flavoursome when pickled.

You should be able to use a little of your organic chives right away, but it's best to grow the plant on for a couple of weeks before giving it a bigger chop.Chives thrive in plenty of sunlight and moist but well-drained soil. If they outgrow the compostable pot they arrive in, replanting indoors or out is a simple process thanks to their tightly packed root structure.

Storage & prep

Open straight away and water well. Chives like a sunny windowsill or sunny bed outside, they are a perennial herb so they will die back thorugh the winter and come back again in the spring. Your plant will arrive in a biodegradable wood-pulp pot, you can keep it inside this pot for a little while but it will start to break down once you've watered it a few times. You can either pot it on inside the pot, give it a good soak first and it will slowly break down allowing the roots to grow outwards. Or you can tip it out of the pot to pot it on and compost or reuse the wood-pulp pot.
