New legislation states that South African grapefruit must travel at cold temperatures to protect against the spread of pests. This can damage the grapefruit, but wax can be used to protect them. An organically approved, natural camauba wax has been used on these grapefruit. Our grapefruit will now be waxed until the start of the European season in November. If you have any concerns, please get in touch with our customer care team at organics@abelandcole.co.uk or by calling 03452 62 62 62.
Abel & Cole handles celery, celeriac, peanuts and nuts on site. Due to our packing process and re-use of boxes there is a risk of cross-contamination from these, and all other allergens.

Grapefruits are traditionally eaten for breakfast; the sharp taste may help you wake up! The sourness can be dulled if you sprinkle a small amount of sugar over them. Keep in a cool place in your kitchen or larder until they are at the ripeness you prefer. Less ripe fruit contains more pectin. Grapefruits may start to lose their vitamin C the longer they are stored. Don’t forget to wash your fruit and veg before use.
