Sweetened by nothing but the sun

We’ve been shouting loud about the benefits of organic food and farming for over 35 years. And we’re proud that everything in our fruit and veg range is either organic or sustainably wild.
Organic fruit and veg is grown as it should be – at its own pace, following the seasons and the weather, without artificial pesticides, and is picked when it’s naturally ready. When it comes to our organic pears, we don’t use ripening chambers or artificially ripen them with added ethylene, unlike some of the supermarkets.
During the UK growing season, our organic pears can be picked and packed as close to peak ripeness as possible, so there’s no need to artificially ripen them in this way.
During the Southern Hemisphere season, we want our organic pears to be able to hold for longer while they make their way to you – so they’re picked slightly earlier than they would be in the UK. When the fruit arrives with us (never by air freight), we could add ethylene or use a ripening chamber to force the ripening process to start, but we choose not to do that. Instead, we send our pears to you just as they are, ready to ripen naturally in your fruit bowl – this does mean you’ll need to be a little patient and wait to enjoy them until time and the fruit itself have done the trick! But when we allow our organic pears to ripen slowly like this, it gives the starches time to be broken down into sweeter fruit sugars as the cells relax.
By saying no to unnecessary, artificial processes and letting nature set the pace, we get to enjoy the most delicious, organic pears – ripened naturally and sweetened by nothing but the sun.
