Method

1. Tomatoes - There are a couple of steps to keep your tomatoes tasting their best. Leave them on the countertop to ripen, then move to the fridge to keep them fresher for longer. They taste the best at room temperature.
2. Herbs - Loosen soft herbs like coriander, basil and parsley and stand in a jar with a little water. Loosely cover with a plastic bag. Keep coriander and parsley in the fridge and basil on your window sill.
3. Lettuce - Nobody likes a limp leaf. To keep your greens at their best, separate the leaves, wash, dry and store in a lidded tub with a bit of damp kitchen roll.
4. Stone Fruit - Keep apricots, cherries, plums, mangoes, peaches and nectarines on the side to ripen, then chill. Enjoy all year by ripening, chopping into segments and tossing with a bit of lemon juice before freezing.
5. Summer Berries - Keep these sweet treats in the fridge, or freeze. To stop them icing in the freezer, don’t wash beforehand. Lay the berries flat on a tray. Freeze, then tip into a container and re-freeze. Wash when ready to use.
6. Asparagus - Treat asparagus like a bouquet of flowers. Trim off the woody ends, and stand in a glass of water to keep them fresh.
7. Summer Beans - Keep your beans in the fridge. Or, to enjoy them all year round, blanch quickly, store in an airtight container and freeze. Cool beans!
