A well rooted pot of French Sorrel (Rumex acetosa) a hardy perennial herb known for its sharp, tangy, citrussy flavour.
Great in salads (young leaves), soups and sauces, providing an acidic kick that complements rich foods, eggs, cream and fish. It melts down like Spinach when cooked.
It contains good levels of vitamin A and C, and is nutritionally valuable after the winter shortage of fresh green leaves.
Care:
Unpack as soon as possible, water and put in light.
French sorrel can be grown outside in a pot on a patio or balcony or in a garden bed or allotment.
It has few pest and diseases and prefers an acid soil in sun or light shade.
Keep harvesting the leaves to promote new growth and prevent the plant from bolting (sending up flower spikes) in early Summer.
Supplied in a 12cm biodegradable pot and grown in compost certified for organic growing
Like Spinach, Chard and rhubarb, French Sorrel naturally contains high levels of oxalic acid. While safe to consume, indiduals prone to kidney stimes or with certain medical sensitivities shoud only eat in moderation.
