Christianne Pollen is a lady who knows what tastes good. Which is probably how she became a cordon bleu chef, and how she came up with such a brilliant organic Cider Vinaigrette Dressing. Great for every day use, with a fresh honey and mustard taste. Give it a shake and drizzle it over your favourite salad.
If your surname was Pollen, you would have to work with food, or honey, in some fashion. So, in 2000, Richard Pollen gave up a career in marketing to devote himself to Pollen Organics. He and his wife, Christianne, have seven children, the youngest 14, and, as most had left home, Mrs Pollen wanted to put her old skills as a Cordon Bleu cook to use. Work started, as it so often does, in the family kitchen, on the Aga.
Their set-up is still very homey. Their working kitchen is set in a stable block near their home in Bramshott Chase, Hampshire.
Richard started by selling through farmer's markets, which allowed them to interact with customers face-to-face. "The first thing we needed to do is educate people how to use things," he says. "People love experimenting, and we ask them what they have done and if it works."
