DYI Dye
It might sound mad but if you’ve got some spare veg to use up, or some drab tablecloths or t-shirts, this is a great way to put them to good use and get a bit creative. Didn’t you know that beetroot is the new black?
Add 1 litre water & 250ml vinegar (or 65g salt) to a saucepan and add your fabric, then let it simmer for an hour.
Take out your t-shirt, tablecloth or whatever you’re dying, and squeeze out the water and let it cool.
Put your fruit or veg, (I’ve used beetroot for pink but go mad and experiment.) in a saucepan with 1 litre of water and bring to the boil. Then pop in your fabric and simmer for 10-30 minutes depending on how strong you want your colour to be. (You can take it off the hob to soak over night.) Rinse, dry and hey presto, you’re ready to go paint the tiles beetroot with your naturally dyed new outfit.

That’s such a great idea! Is the dye colourfast though?
What other types of veggies have a colourful dye effect?
AWESOME!
Onion skins will give a tan colour and perhaps brown if you use more. I suspect you could use mushroom skins for a dark colour. I would also try leafy green vegetables but the colour might be a little muddy.
What about rhubarb?
