HelloandHappyNewYear
Do you remember around this time last year lots of you kindly left out second hand shoes for us to collect, sort and send to Africa?
Well, they finally got there in November, and Stu and Andy went to distribute them.
Turns out Andy is pretty handy with a camera.
Here are just a handful of his photos.
Thank you so much to everyone who donated.
As you can see, they’ve found very appreciative homes.
Happy feet for all.
See Part I here.

Its lovely to know they were hand delivered and to be able to see the children enjoying them. It would be nice to do this again please!

Thanks for the photos. Please do it again – it’s hard to find a good home for used children’s shoes and this is certainly one of the best!

I really do NOT want to be a wet blanket but I read some time ago that shoes sent from abroad meant that a local shoemaker lost out. I wonder if anybody has any views on this? Of course if I am wrong I should love to be involved if you have further appeals.

Hello,
Thanks for the lovely comments – they are very encouraging to hear.
Beatrice – that’s a good point well raised. I understand your concerns – I shared them in fact, so made enquires before we started collecting. Our donated shoes won’t have had any negative impact on local businesses. The shoes went to those who can’t afford to buy any. There are so many people living in such abject poverty that we barely scratched the surface. We strive to be respectful of local economies and businesses (in everything we do, not just with donations) and we do a fair amount of research to make sure we’re doing good stuff, but carefully and mindfully.
Hope this answers your question, but do email us if you have any more.
Best wishes, Claudia

I would love to donate my children’s shoes that they have outgrown but are still in good condition, please keep us informed of when you repeat this exercise. Thanks!
