Some of our juicy lemons hail from Capo d'Orlando in the Messina region of north east Sicily. Our growers Pippo, Giancarlo and Enzo are specialist citrus growers and raise a wide range of fruits including oranges, lemons, kumquats and pomelo.
Surprisingly, all citrus needs cold weather to get the right colouration, particularly cold nights. When its summer in Europe and the temperatures are really high, our lemons may not have the usual yellow hue, but a hint to green too. This does not mean that the fruit isn't ripe; it's purely down to temperature and I can assure you they are just as flavoursome!
Our citrus is from Europe for the majority of the year, apart from some between June and October.
Lemon can be used in a million different ways. The juice spices up a salad, is a classic ingredient in pancakes, is used in stuffings, drinks, cakes. The zest is full flavoured, and our lemons are unwaxed, so you can use it freely. Lemons will keep for quite a long time in your fruit bowl. If you are using half at a time, cover the end in plastic and keep in the fridge.
